About Me
I earned a B.S. degree in Chemistry from UW-Madison back in 1994, and worked in that field as a lab technician. After three years, I decided to switch gears and become a Domestic Engineer for the next ten years, until all three of my children went to school. Feeling a need to pursue a more flexible career, I then went back to school myself, and became a Massage Therapist in 2007 after attending Lakeside School of Massage Therapy.
My Skills
As soon as I finished massage school, I began continuing education in CranioSacral Therapy. I was fascinated by this gentle form of therapy, and how it works with the meninges of the brain and spinal cord to encourage the body to correct its difficulties on its own -- it acts as a catalyst for the body's own innate ability to heal. I have completed CranioSacral Levels 1 and 2, Unwinding Meridians Level 1, and SomatoEmotional Release Levels 1 and 2 so far. I can now pursue certification if I so choose.
Since CranioSacral Therapy influences the fascia, or connective tissue envelope of the body, and effects of this can be felt sometimes even far removed from the brain and spinal cord, I have done some self-study of Anatomy Trains by Thomas Myers and his theory of myofascial meridians. These meridians are "lines" of related muscle and fascia that tend to become shortened together. This assists me in finding possible causes of imbalance and the resulting pain in the body.
I have also completed all four levels of Neuromeningeal Manipulation through the Barral Institute. This is also gentle work using the principles of CranioSacral Therapy, which again involves the fascia, specifically that around the nerves themselves, and freeing restrictions that may have been caused by trauma.
I have taken additional continuing education in Hospice Massage, Reiki, and Touch for Health Kinesiology. I look forward to learning still more, it has been an interesting journey thus far.
